Marble Race Name Picker
Every name gets a marble. Press start, watch the lead change hands, and see who crosses the line first. You get a winner, a podium and the full finishing order, all drawn fairly before the race begins.
The video is made inside your browser and saved to your device. Nothing is uploaded.
How the Marble Race Stays Fair
Real marble races are not fair, and neither are most marble race games. In a physical race, the lane, the starting position, a slightly heavier marble or one bad bounce can decide the winner. Games that copy real physics inherit the same problem: whoever starts on the inside line, or nearest the first ramp, wins more often than chance would allow.
This picker separates the result from the show. The moment you press start, the page shuffles the whole list with a Fisher and Yates shuffle fed by crypto.getRandomValues, the secure random number source built into your browser. That shuffle is the finishing order, and every possible order is exactly as likely as any other. The race you watch is then animated to arrive in that order.
The full finishing order is drawn in one step, the moment you press start. Nothing that happens on the track can change it.
Each marble gets its own pace with surges and slow patches, so leads change. Those changes are part of the show, not part of the draw.
Marbles cross in the drawn order, a little apart so a photo finish is always clear. The first marble home is the winner.
Lane position does not matter either. Your list order only decides which lane a marble starts in, and Shuffle lanes mixes that up for looks. The chance of winning is the same from lane 1 or lane 100. If you want to see what equal chances look like over thousands of draws, the Fairness Lab runs the test live in your browser.
What People Use a Marble Race For
A wheel gives you one winner per spin. A race gives you a complete ranking in one go, which is exactly what a lot of real decisions need.
Fantasy draft order
Put every manager in the race and the finishing order is your draft order. Record it and post the video in the league chat so nobody can say it was rigged.
Presentation order
Race the class or the team once and the whole running order is set. Nobody argues about going first when a marble decided it.
Giveaways with three prizes
First, second and third place come from a single race, so the prize order is settled in one moment instead of three separate spins.
Turn order for games
Board games, video game tournaments, karaoke nights. Race the players and play in finishing order.
Stream moments
Chat gets to cheer for its marble for twelve seconds instead of watching a wheel for three. Close races get clipped.
Chores and rotas
Race the household on Sunday: last place takes the bins, first place picks dinner. The order also works as the week's rota.
Marble Race or Spinning Wheel?
Both pick fairly. The difference is what you get out of one round and how long the moment lasts.
| You need | Marble race | Spinning wheel |
|---|---|---|
| One winner, fast | Works, 8 second sprint | Best fit, about 4 seconds |
| A full ranked order | One race ranks everyone | One spin per place, with Eliminate mode |
| Top three prizes | Podium from one race | Three spins |
| Weighted chances | Type a name twice for two marbles | Weighted entries with PRO |
| Splitting into teams | Not built for it | Team generator |
| A public, checkable record | Video you can share | Certified draw |
Running a Draft Order Reveal, Step by Step
The draft order is the one random draw in a fantasy league that people remember all season, and the one most likely to start an argument. A race settles it in a way everyone can watch, and the recording settles any doubts afterwards.
Agree the rules before the race
Decide in the league chat that the finishing order is the draft order, first across the line picks first. If your league uses a snake draft, the order reverses every round from there. Agreeing first means nobody can ask for a rerun.
Enter every manager once
Use team names or first names, one per line, and count them against the league roster. A duplicate line would give that manager two marbles.
Pick Marathon and turn on the recorder
Twenty seconds gives everyone time to find their marble and shout at it. Recording means managers who missed the live moment can still watch it later.
Race on a video call, or live in the room
Share your screen, count everyone in and press start. The leaderboard above the track shows the top three as it changes.
Post the order and the video
Copy the order puts a numbered list on your clipboard, ready for the league chat or your fantasy site's draft settings. Attach the video and the job is done.
Recording the Race and Sharing It
Turn on Record a video of the race before you press start. The page records the track and its sound from the countdown to the moment the last marble finishes, then gives you a Download button. The file is made by your own browser with its built in recorder, so it never passes through a server.
- Chrome, Edge and recent Safari save an MP4 when they can, which plays almost everywhere. Older browsers and Firefox save a WebM file, which plays in Chrome, Firefox and VLC.
- Keep the tab in front while it records. Browsers slow down background tabs, and a hidden tab records a frozen frame.
- For a group chat, a 12 second race of up to 20 names makes a clip small enough to send on any messaging app.
- For a stream, you do not need the recorder: capture the window in OBS and the race goes out live. The OBS wheel overlay covers stream setups for the wheel.
Getting the Best Race
Pick the length for the room
Sprint suits a classroom that needs a name now. Classic gives a stream or a party enough time to cheer. Marathon is for big moments, like a draft order reveal, where the wait is the fun.
Short names read best
Labels ride just behind each marble. First names or nicknames stay readable even with 40 racers; long full names get shortened.
Big fields are fine
Up to 100 marbles fit. Lanes get thinner as the field grows, and the camera follows the leaders, so the front of the race always stays in view.
Duplicates count twice
Typing a name twice gives it two marbles and twice the chance. That is handy for raffle tickets, and easy to miss by accident, so check pasted lists.
