Spin the wheel inside Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor

Add one address to your AI assistant and it can pick names fairly, split teams and run certified draws anyone can check. The NameWheel wheel spins right in the chat.

NameWheel MCP is a free remote MCP server at https://mcp.namewheel.org/mcp. It gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other AI assistants eight NameWheel tools: fair random picks with the wheel shown in the chat, random teams, wheel links, and TrueSpin™ certified draws with a permanent public proof page. Picks, teams and checks need no account; certified draws need a free NameWheel account.

Watch it spin, live

This is the exact view your assistant shows. The buttons call the real NameWheel MCP server, the same one Claude and ChatGPT use, and the wheel draws its real answer.

Up to 30 demo calls a minute from your address. Spins and teams are worked out on the server and the names are not stored.

How a certified draw works

Certified draws are for results other people need to trust: a class award, a team decision, a giveaway. Five steps, and every one is public.

1

Sealed before the spin

NameWheel's server makes a 32 byte secret and publishes only its SHA-256 fingerprint, the commitment. Changing the secret later would break the fingerprint.

2

Your side adds randomness

The connection adds its own random value, plus any words you give it, so the server alone cannot steer the result.

3

Plain math picks the winner

HMAC-SHA256, keyed with the secret, over the added randomness and the fingerprint of the entry list. The first 8 bytes, read as a number, divided by the number of entries: the remainder is the winner.8

4

Revealed and signed

After the spin the secret is published and the whole record is signed with NameWheel's Ed25519 key, so nothing in it can change unnoticed.7

5

A permanent proof page

namewheel.org/v/CODE shows every entry, the winner and every value above, with a button that recomputes the draw in the browser. It also lists every draw the same account ran on the same list, so re-running until a favourite wins is visible.

Why a tool

Why not just ask the AI to pick?

A chatbot can name a winner, but a language model is not a random number generator, and nobody can check its pick afterwards.

Chatbots have favourites

In a 2024 study, GPT-4 and Llama 3 leaned towards heads when asked to flip coins, most of all on the first flip, and avoided long runs the way people do.1 Asked for a number from 1 to 100, one test found GPT-3.5 Turbo kept choosing 47, Claude 3 Haiku 42 and Gemini 1.0 Pro 72.2

Nobody can check a chat pick

Ask again and you get a new answer. There is no record of what was drawn, from which list, or how many times someone asked before sharing the result.

NameWheel does the drawing

The assistant only passes the names. spin_wheel uses the server's cryptographic random number generator (Node.js crypto.randomInt)3, so every name has the same chance. certified_draw goes further: sealed, signed and public.

Up to 5 keys per account. Manage them in your dashboard.

Privacy

What is kept, and what is public

Your assistant's own provider handles your conversation under its policy. NameWheel only receives what the assistant sends to a tool.

Spins and teams

Worked out on the server and answered. The names are not stored. Request logs keep the tool, the number of entries and the caller's address for 30 days, never the names.

Certified draws

Stored and published on their proof pages by design, permanently, like certified draws made on the website. Use names you are happy to publish.

Your key

NameWheel's database keeps only its SHA-256 fingerprint. Connected assistants get short tokens tied to it; delete the key and they stop working.

FAQ

Questions

What is the NameWheel MCP server?
It is a remote Model Context Protocol server at https://mcp.namewheel.org/mcp. It lets AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code use NameWheel: fair random picks with the wheel shown in the chat, random teams, wheel links and TrueSpin certified draws with a public proof page.
Is it free?
Yes. Picks, teams, wheel links and checking draws need no account. Certified draws, frozen lists and your draw history need a free NameWheel account. Website extras such as hosted draw videos are part of NameWheel PRO.
Which apps does it work in?
Any app that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP, including Claude (web, desktop and mobile), Claude Code, ChatGPT in Developer Mode, Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Codex CLI, Windsurf and Gemini CLI. The spinning wheel shows in apps that support MCP Apps views, such as Claude and ChatGPT; other apps show the same result as text.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It is a hosted server: you add its address to your app. Developers can also run the open source server on their own computer from github.com/namewheel/mcp.
Is the pick really random?
Yes. spin_wheel and make_teams use Node.js crypto.randomInt, a cryptographically secure random number generator, on NameWheel's server. The assistant only passes the names; it does not choose the winner.
How is a certified draw different from a normal spin?
A normal spin is fair but leaves no record. A certified draw is sealed before the spin with a published SHA-256 commitment, mixes in randomness from your connection, is signed with NameWheel's Ed25519 key and is published on a permanent proof page where anyone can recompute the winner.
Are the names in a certified draw public?
Yes. The title, every entry and the winner of a certified draw are published on its proof page permanently, so only use names you are happy to publish. Names in normal spins and teams are not stored.
How do I connect my NameWheel account?
When you ask for something that needs an account, your app shows Connect and a NameWheel page asks for your API key. Make one in one press on this page, or in your dashboard under Settings. In Claude Code, run /mcp to connect.
What can the API key do?
Only four things: run certified draws, freeze entry lists, read your plan and list your own draws. It cannot change your account, your payments or your data. Delete it in your dashboard under Settings to disconnect every assistant that used it.
Can I check someone else's draw?
Yes, with no account. Ask your assistant to check the code or the namewheel.org/v/ link with verify_draw, open the proof page and press the recompute button, or use the open source verifier at github.com/namewheel/truespin-verifier.
What are the limits?
Without an account, 30 calls a minute and 500 a day per connection, up to 500 names per wheel. A free account removes the per-connection limit and allows up to 20 certified draws in any 24 hours.
Is the code open source?
Yes. The server, the in-chat wheel and the sign-in flow are MIT licensed at github.com/namewheel/mcp.
