How People Actually Use This Wheel
You would be surprised how many legitimate reasons there are to randomly pick a Marvel hero.
🥊
Who Would Win Debates
Spin twice, get two heroes, argue for the next hour. Nobody will agree and that is entirely the point. Doctor Strange vs. Captain Marvel has fueled countless arguments.
🎃
Halloween Costume Picker
Can't decide who to dress as? Spin and commit. The wheel said Moon Knight. Moon Knight it is. Now go build that suit. No takesies-backsies.
🎮
Gaming and Cosplay Assignments
Random hero assignment for Marvel games, cosplay groups, or convention meetups. One spin per person so nobody fights over Iron Man again.
🧠
Trivia Night Host
Spin to pick a random hero, then fire trivia questions about that character. First wrong answer is out. Works brilliantly for parties and game nights.
📺
Movie Marathon Order
Spin to decide which Marvel film to watch next. Or spin to pick a hero and watch all their movies back to back. Either way tonight is a Marvel night.
🎨
Art and Writing Prompts
Illustrators and fan fiction writers use random pickers to escape comfort zones. Spin once, draw that hero in a new style. Spin twice, write a crossover story nobody asked for but everyone will read.
The MCU: All 5 Phases
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the most ambitious serialized storytelling project in Hollywood history. 33 films and counting, all connected. Here is how it breaks down by phase, so you know roughly what era any hero on this wheel comes from.
Phase 12008 – 2012The Avengers Initiative
6 films. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers. This phase established the core six Avengers and proved the shared universe concept could actually work. Nobody believed it would before Iron Man came out. The Avengers (2012) made $1.5 billion worldwide and changed blockbuster filmmaking permanently.
Phase 22013 – 2015Expanding the Universe
6 films. Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man. Phase 2 introduced cosmic storytelling with Guardians and added the spy thriller genre with Winter Soldier (still one of the best). Thor: The Dark World is widely agreed to be the weakest MCU entry, but it introduced the Reality Stone.
Phase 32016 – 2019The Infinity Saga Finale
11 films. Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home. The biggest phase by volume and by stakes. Infinity War and Endgame together made over $5 billion globally. Black Panther was a cultural moment. Ragnarok reinvented Thor entirely.
Phase 42021 – 2022The Multiverse Opens
6 films + 7 Disney+ series. Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This phase introduced the multiverse as the new central threat, debuted Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Hawkeye on Disney+, and brought Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire back for No Way Home to break the internet.
Phase 52023 – ongoingThe Multiverse Saga
Ongoing. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Deadpool & Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World. Phase 5 is building toward Avengers: Secret Wars (Phase 6 finale). Guardians Vol. 3 provided a satisfying ending to that team's arc. Deadpool & Wolverine brought both R-rated Fox Marvel characters into the MCU officially.
Marvel Power Tiers: Who Can Beat Who
The who-would-win debate is basically a Marvel tradition at this point. Here is a rough power tier breakdown based on the MCU versions of each character, so your next debate at least starts from a shared premise instead of everyone yelling over each other immediately.
These characters can reshape reality, destroy planets, or bend the laws of physics. They are the ones who get nerfed in the plot because otherwise there is no story.
Avengers LevelPeak human to enhanced, can handle global threats
The core Avengers category. These characters can fight armies, survive massive damage, and work tactically. Iron Man at full armor is here. Captain America with the shield is here. Hulk is debated between tiers depending on whether he has a plan.
Iron ManCaptain AmericaHulkBlack PantherVisionAnt-Man (giant)Rocket RaccoonGamoraStar-LordWinter SoldierFalconShang-Chi
Street LevelPeak human, tactical, urban threats
Highly trained, elite combatants who handle crime, espionage, and local threats. Not the people you call for Thanos. Very much the people you call for literally everything else. Do not underestimate them in any 1v1 scenario.
These tiers are based on MCU performance, not comics. Comic versions of these characters can be significantly different in power level. The MCU nerfed several characters substantially for plot reasons.
Comics vs MCU: 5 Major Differences
The MCU is an adaptation, not a direct translation. Characters were changed, combined, renamed, or completely reimagined. Here are the five differences that actually matter if you want to impress someone at a comic shop.
Difference 01
The Mandarin (Iron Man 3 controversy)
In Comics
The Mandarin is a genuine genius-level supervillain with ten power rings of alien origin. He is one of Iron Man's most persistent and formidable antagonists, with centuries of history across multiple runs.
In MCU
Iron Man 3 revealed "The Mandarin" to be a British actor named Trevor (played brilliantly by Ben Kingsley) hired as a front for a real villain. Fans were furious. A short film later tried to reconcile this. Shang-Chi introduced a real Mandarin character in 2021.
Difference 02
Scarlet Witch's powers
In Comics
Wanda is a mutant whose "hex powers" stem from being a mutant. Her most famous storyline, House of M, has her reality-rewrite "No more mutants" that removes the X-gene from most of the population.
In MCU
Wanda's powers were enhanced by the Mind Stone (Hydra experiments), not mutation-based originally. The MCU version's chaos magic and Darkhold corruption arc diverges significantly from her comics history. No mutant origin in Phase 1-4.
Difference 03
Nick Fury's eye (it matters more than you think)
In Comics
Fury lost his eye during World War II. It is a war wound with a dramatic history involving a grenade. He has worn the eyepatch since his very first appearance in 1963.
In MCU
Captain Marvel (set in the 1990s) revealed that Fury lost his eye to Goose the cat-alien (a Flerken). This was played as a joke. Jackson says he regrets how this was handled. The internet has never forgiven Goose.
Difference 04
Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's parentage
In Comics
Pietro and Wanda Maximoff are canonically the children of Magneto. This is a foundational part of both characters and their relationship to the X-Men world.
In MCU
No Magneto, no mutant connection (originally). They were orphaned Sokovian children who volunteered for Hydra experiments. Quicksilver died in Age of Ultron. Wanda's true parentage has been revisited as the X-Men integration begins in the Multiverse Saga.
Difference 05
Thor's power source
In Comics
For decades, Mjolnir channeled the Odinforce and was the primary source of Thor's power. Without it, Thor was significantly weaker. The hammer was everything.
In MCU
Ragnarok established that Thor's power was always inside him and Mjolnir was just a focus tool, not the source. This is now MCU canon. Comics eventually followed this interpretation. Endgame Thor summoned Mjolnir from an alternate 2013 and both hammers at once, which was peak Thor energy.
